Luke 5:1-11 The Art of Being Irresistible

OK, so it’s my granddaughter. I couldn’t resist using her picture. But it works. She is, well, irresistible. At least to me. Whatever she wants, she gets.

What was it that was so compelling about Jesus? When he spoke, he had power. Wind and waves “heard”  him. Fevers “listened” to him and “departed” from people. He could speak, and it would happen.  In his presence, even stones could cry out (Luke 19).

But he had another kind of “draw” that was irresistible.

He had the power to simply call men to join him---and they’d respond. They’d leave businesses, families, their jobs. They’d do so without even consulting their wives. He could get them to do anything, because he was frankly “irresistible.” Can we be that way?

It’s interesting to consider this aspect of Jesus and what he came to give humanity. We can partake of his divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). And be what he was to the the world. Including when needed, irresistible. Or at least, we can ask for it!
