Luke 4:31-33 DEMON POSSESSION IN NT: As the Kingdom Expands, the Demons Contract

Have you ever heard of the phrase “The Lord of the Flies?”

A popular book in the 1950’s bore that name. And a movie about how the baser form of human nature comes out in certain dynamics was named by the phrase as well.

Biblically the phrase was a reference to Satan. And of course, the scary concept of “demon” possession come to mind.

What exactly does the Bible say about demon “possession?”

You’d be surprised to learn that the word “possess” is not even in the New Testament Greek with regards to demons.

Long story short, demons never “possessed.” The word for possession is not used in the Greek. But a demon could “take hold” of a person who somehow lost their sense of self or self-control-- became “dispossessed” of themselves.

Indulging in mind-controlling indulgences of the flesh can bring about that condition. But so can also simply not know what is available now because of Christ.

Because of Jesus Christ,  a person can now “take hold” of the Holy Spirit of God.

And once that happens, there’s no room left for “the un-holy spirit” to dare come in.

When the Kingdom of God that is “near” expands, the kingdom of the prince of the power of the air contracts.

And that is very good news.

So, just realize how safe you are because of God in the Marketplace this week. How perhaps even your presence can make the demons and bad spirits in the workplace because the “kingdom of heaven” IN YOU can become near—and dispel the darkness and gloom that wants to rob our joy, and the joy of others.

Bring the Kingdom NEAR in you—and watch the darkness start to flee wherever you go.
