Luke 8: 5- 15 The Parable of the Sower Part 2 of 3: What Kind of “Dirt” Are You?

The Bible says it very plainly. We are made of dirt—— “soil” turned into clay turned into a human being. And we were meant to be “planted” with the seed of God’s Word and bearing fruit.

What kind of soil are you?

And how receptive are you to the Word of God taking root in your heart and bearing fruit? This parable talks about the “thorns” of this life that can choke the power of God’s words out of your life. There are the concerns, even the legitimate concerns of this world, that seem way more important than just a little Bible study at “too busy” times. Then there are the riches that are so prevalent in our society that they choke the word into insignificance. Then there are the pleasures of life.

What kind of soil are you? And is God’s “Word” bearing fruit in your life? It’s a question to consider as we enter the Marketplace this week.

No matter how “busy” you are, don’t be too busy to let some of God’s “Word” soak into your heart. Let the soil of your being be drenched and irradiated by God’s Spirit. And find time to let God’s “Words” in. You won’t regret, and what you do will be blessed because of it!
