Luke 7:11-17 The Raising of the Widow’s Son

So, this is a well-known story. Jesus has compassion on a widow whose only son had died and he raises him while he’s being carried to his funeral.

But there is a back story to this story. In a town of Shunem, just a few miles away, another great and somewhat similar scene took place. Elisha the prophet raised the only son of a mother in a very dramatic way. And if you read the chapter this story is found (2 Kings 4) you’ll read the miracle of the jar of oil, where just like the five loaves and two fish, the little jar kept filling jar after jar until all the needs of a little family were met.

It led me to a supposition. Where did Jesus get at least some of the ideas for the miracle he did. Did he pattern some after the miracles of the ancient prophets, so that people would know how he was a prophet even greater than all of them?

What might we be able to do if we pattern our lives after Jesus and get “ideas” of things we can and should do in our sphere’s of influence?

Maybe we’re capable of more than we realize as we live with Jesus, not only “At Work on Purpose” (AWOP) but “At LIFE on Purpose” (ALOP) everyday.

After all, we don’t just represent Jesus.

We can “re-present” Him, as he lives His life all over again in each of us!
