LUKE 6:1-11 LORD of the Sabbath Part 1

Luke 6:1-11 Lord of the Sabbath Part 1

Immediately after the discussion about New Wineskins, Jesus tackled one of the toughest “wine skins” and “old wine” that there was for the Jews of his day---the Sabbath. And when you read the Scriptures, there were not only one Sabbath, but there were also seven. They had been a hallmark commands for centuries, spanning the time of Moses to Jesus’ day. I know so much about them because I used to keep them.  They made for a biblically based liturgy that taught me a lot about the way the Old Testament pointed to Christ. And how once the reality of Christ came, the “shadows” pointing to him became something I didn’t need any more. Don’t get me wrong. I can still use them to worship him. But I can use other things as well. Days and seasons don’t matter as much now as the Reality that is Christ.  We’ll be using the CLV translation in this study. It’s a more literal translation. It’s a rich translation and shows nuances you miss in modern ones.
