Luke 4:14-30 Jesus’ First Sermon PART 1: How Synagogues Led to Churches

Jesus was now ready for ministry. He’d faced Satan and the flesh and defeated both.

It was time for Jesus to begin His ministry, and he started with his family and hometown.

And He gave his first recorded sermon. And it was going to be a disaster. He probably embarrassed his family. And the crowd not only disapproved but tried to kill him.

What He said was just that offensive to them.  We tend to rate (and hire) our pastors on how well they attract and hold the crowds. Jesus would have failed to meet our criteria. It’s remarkable how the flesh can co-opt the church and render it ineffective.  But truth keeps marching on! Let's see how.
